As a country that is smaller and less populated we feel more vulnerable to attacks of nations or single parties by means of using the internet. We are among the top of the developing nations in the world so we would like to feel secure from these kinds of threats. In the past these events have been dealt with but we believe that only major attacks should be pursued. We currently have no definition or major cyber attacks, but that is something we hope to define in this committee along with others, i.e., cyber attacks and the consequences and procedures to be used in case of an attack. Not only is our job to create these definitions and procedures but also to spread and publicize them to all countries. As a smaller nation we are scared because we, as a currently developing nation, think that we are majorly vulnerable to these attacks and have much more to lose than other nations. If an attack is imposed on us then not only do we lose a lot of information on our citizens and our government, but it also sets us back and we will have to rebuild before we move forward. With this in mind we would like to see some sort of basic yet secure plan to be offered to nations that currently do not have the means to safely protect themselves and their citizens. The UN defines Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) as “reduce the damage caused by natural hazards like earthquakes, floods, droughts and cyclones, through an ethic of prevention.” We would like to add cyber attacks to that list. We believe a cyber attack can be just as devastating as a natural disaster. United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) already is trying to to put into place DRR programs so if we add the cyber attacks to the list of disasters, they can already have a body to accomplish this task of protecting nations.
