Canada acknowledges the dangers of recent climate shifts. Due to its location as a northern country and its proximity to the Arctic Circle, the rising water levels would have a disastrous effect on the northern region, as it is used to provide hydroelectric power to other areas of the country. As a country, Canada is currently investing in things like renewable fuels and cleaner electric grids to limit its impact on the environment. More than 50% of Canadian lands are covered in boreal forests. As it is, hydropower and mining companies are already encroaching on the southern limits of the boreal forests, and it’s easily believed that other countries are likely suffering from the same issues. It’s really important the U.N. be used to come together between nations to aid those countries that are currently suffering or will be going through essential changes in climate and global warming that may effect their people’s cultures or way of life.
Canada does take note that there may be certain underdeveloped countries that may need help while preventing further damage from harmful emissions, waste management, or deforestation. Canada implores the United Nations to come together in order to create a plan to help deal with the causes of climate change and global warming, such as the burning of fossil fuels, improper handling of waste, and deforestation. The U.N. could be useful in keeping all countries united and focused on the purpose of avoiding any negative environmental effects due to the shifting climates, and attempt to lessen the damage already done if possible. In the situation that countries would be unable to take part in the transitions to cleaner forms of energy and limiting emissions, the U.N. would also provide an opportunity for nations to discuss possibly aiding those countries financially.
