Building safe communities in conflict zones is a complicated, yet important procedure. It includes many factors that would not only require many resources and aid to start it, but the safety of the individuals who help with the rebuilding process as well. People affected in these conflict zones face many traumatic experiences, especially children. Just over one billion children under the age of eighteen live in territories affected by armed conflicts. For these people a safe and secure community is very much needed so that they can be brought back into a substantial living that they very much deserve. A safe community has access to power, sanitation, food, transportation, education, commerce and healthcare. However, in order for such requirements to be met, a community must have these same underlying foundations before a conflict has struck them. With these, more success can be brought through a rebuilding process when such tragedy has arrived.
Argentina believes that a long term solution could be very beneficial to communities before a major conflict has occurred. Argentina’s citizens are composed of close family ties and a close community in general as well. Argentina proposes a community based approach in which strengthening a society’s companionship between its citizens would soon build strong relationships within the community. Such relationships formed would greatly help them not only further their community’s development, but also benefit them in having a strong sense of their community within themselves and their neighbors. Whereas, if such a conflict were to occur in their area they would be able to comfortably band together and help the rebuilding process of their society.
Argentina is looking forward to what this committee will achieve. Our long term community based approach, in which is a preventative measure in itself as well, is one that we hope many other nations would take into consideration. Argentina acknowledges that a short term solution is pressing and will be open to any further suggestions provided.
