Often, during times of conflict, citizens inhabiting a country may feel forced to leave. These refugees leave in order to find a safer area, but refugee camps are many times just as safe as living in the conflict zone. Even after a time of conflict ends, it is often difficult for the refugees to reintegrate back into their old lives. In order to prevent citizens from feeling forced to leave during times of conflict in the first place, it is a good idea to build safe communities in conflict zones. Safe communities provide medical care, education, food, housing, transportation, and sanitary conditions.
The delegation of Libya supports the building of safe communities in conflict zones. During the Libyan Civil War many refugees sought a safer area to live and fled to border countries such as Chad and Egypt. Also many children felt the need to turn to joining the army in order to survive, this is because by staying in conflict zones they would not be guaranteed the supplies needed for survival. Safe refugee camps would be beneficial to Libya because it would ensure basic needs-such as food and water- as well as education for children. Libya has been working with UNICEF recently to fix structures such as schools damaged because of the Libyan Civil War. Because the safe communities ensure children basic survival needs, they will be less likely to join the army.
We would like to start projects within conflict zones in our country to build safe communities- or refugee camps. Building safe communities would be most beneficial in the predominant conflict areas during the Libyan Civil War. We believe that the building of safe refugee camps is essential to the reintegration and prevention of child soldiers and will be beneficial to our future generations and the needs of our country as a whole.
