Egypt is located in the Middle East in northern Africa. It has gone through a lot of civil unrest and currently the military is in control after over throwing the Muslim Brother Hood. Being located in the Middle East and in Africa Egypt is not new the use of Small Arms and Light Weapons and the problems they present. They have been working with The League of Arab States to fight this problem through out the Middle East. Currently, the United Nations is debating the most effective ways to combat the Spread of Small Arms and Weapons. Egypt fully supports the eradication of SALW’s. These are weapons that can be carried by a single person are mostly used in acts of terror, civil wars, organized crime, and gang warfare. Due to their deadliness the United Nations is asking that all countries report the amount of SALW’s illicit or licit inside of their country and their possession, trade and use of them. From there, steps must be taken to prevent their use and spread. One proposal is the buyback of these weapons with food, medicine, farming and equipment, though some groups will be unlikely to sacrifice their weapons. So Egypt has a few ideas to help with the eradication of SALW’s. Egypt proposes to help with this problem to first focus on Africa. Africa itself contains more SALW’s then any other area, making it a highly targeted area. Also Egypt would like for this proposal to provide more help to developing states and states coming out of conflict. These states will struggle to eradicate SAWL's on their own. The illicit exploitation of natural resources must be addressed as well as it is a primary source for the purchase of Small Arms and Light Weapons. Egypt supports this proposal but it does need a few changes to make it stronger and more effective.
