New Zealand believes that it is vital to assist refugees by supplying them with emergency food and security. New Zealand takes part in this cause by resettling approximately 750 refugees a year. We work to help the people adapt to the new environment and use their strength and skills to achieve personal goals. Refugees experience awful challenges such as war, racism, oppression, discrimination, and persecution. New Zealand takes in a great amount of refugees a year and supplies them with the necessities they need to integrate into a new life. With this new life comes many new opportunities and chances for these people to achieve their goals.
A major goal of the country of New Zealand is to provide adequate food to the suffering refugees. The World Food Programme (WFP) gives food to 90 million people a year, 58 million of which are children. WFP strives to eliminate hunger through using food aid to support economic and social development, meet refugee and other emergency food needs, and promote world food security in accordance with the recommendations of the UN and FAO.
The UN can help these trying situations by gathering funds in order to support the proper nutrition of refugee groups. Currently, refugee groups are receiving insufficient funds for its humanitarian needs. It is necessary for the United Nations, and its countries, to confront the issue of malnutrition and prevent further food problems.
