As with the UN, the Russian delegation finds that food is an unassailable human right. One of the core reasons that the UN was started was as an attempt to end world hunger. This is an admirable goal that Russia thinks will go a long way in establishing a safer, better world. There is already substantial international law in effect when it comes to solving world hunger that, as a member of the UN and as a responsible international citizen, Russia complies with. We also agree with the notion that children are supposed to have an adequate nutrition available to them if at all possible.There is suggestion of the delineation of roles when distributing food, and this is a matter that Russia also supports.
In 2007, Russia approved the “Concept of Russia’s Participation in International Development Assistance” which outlays Russia’s plan and basic stance on international emergency agriculture dispersal, among other things. This provision maintains that we will increase aid in spending for this regard and that there is a floor of .7% of our GDP that will be spent on International Development Assistance. Russia has a vast agricultural wealth that is only expected to grow after cutting off our imports from the west. In addition, Russia has a stable market economy that would allow us to inhabit other roles such as logistics or brokering between countries.
In essence, the Russian delegation feels that their are adequate laws in place that could allow for developing in regards to the diversification of roles. We feel that the UN’s mission matches ours and that it should continue to be actively pursued. Also, we do not support any repeals of these international laws or anything that requires us to donate food in a place that is controversially deemed needy.
