The members of the United Nations must work together to make sure that they are accountable. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea has had many problems with a lack of accountability regarding UN work, and it hopes that the confusion and losses sustatined from the lack of accountability will not become a problem again in the future. Even something as simple as cutting down a tree on a border without alerting the respective authorities can cause bloodshed, and The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea hopes that we can reach an end to this.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea believes that the United Nations does not have capability to hold themselves accountable. They lack an international structuring in operations. Leadership, members, and supplies of an operation are not made with international bodies, they primarily are made up of those who choose to give, regardless of their biases or stereotypes. The people impacted by these operations are not always properly cared for or respected, and this is due to a lack of acknowledgement of local customs because the peacekeepers are from the other side of the Earth.
Corruption and personal politics must be eliminated from the United Nations, and the nations who spend the most and give the most should be wholly scrutinized. It is not a happy fact to face, but we must know that those most involved are those who are most likely to be corrupted.
