The Kurds of the ancient land of Corduene, now known as Kurdistan, have been bypassed completely by the United Nations in its legislations. Before the ratification of the Treaty of Lausanne the Kurdish people were promised the southeast corner of modern Turkey by the Treaty of Sevrès. The former legislation superseded the latter in most aspects but did not address the Question of Kurdistan.
The Government of Denmark agrees that the Kurds have the right to form their own independent nation from land currently belonging to other nations. The nations involved in the ceding of lands to once again form Kurdistan are Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Iran. The involved parties should handle the negotiation peacefully because the lands in question are already dominated, in terms of population by the Kurds. The group is already there and only has to be properly recognized by the international community and be granted their own government.
If for the reason of prior legislation or further border disputes between the involved parties the Kurdish people are not granted their own government the bare minimum that are entitled to is full recognition as citizens and enjoy such rights. Also the dissolution of the persecution of the Kurds in some states that they inhabit will have to come towards a peaceful end.
Denmark stands to support that the Question of Kurdistan be prioritized over other problems dealing with civil unrest for the reason that not doing so would provoke further acts of violence from the PKK. The states should seek better relations with their Kurdish constituents but that is not a complete solution. The will for independence will not stop as long as the Kurdish persecution persists. In order to avoid such issues the involved nations should provide full citizenship to Kurds as previously stated.
