The Kurds are a people without a politically recognized homeland. WIthin this broad group of people of diverse tribal associations, and religious practices. In many ways they have been able to maintain a strong ethnic identity.Today based on substantial population increase in the Kurds population in Kazakhstan, Kurds are looking to become a nation of there own.

The traditional homeland of the kurds, was in southwestern Asia. This area included parts of Iran, Iraq, Syria, Turkey, and the former soviet Union. Today, there are a number of Kurd settlements in Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. Most of those in Kazakhstan live in small Kurdish communities in Tchimkent, Jamboul, and around Almaty. Twice in history we see Kurds deported from central Asia. The first deportation happened in 1937 where Stalin the leader of the Soviet Union at the time, deported curds from Nakhchivan. The Second deportation occurred in 1944 in Geogia. Stalin feared Turkish invasion and saw Kurds as an enemy even though many Kurds served in the Soviet Army.

The Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev would have Kurds think again about developing their own country. Nazarbayev proposed changing his country's own name, dropping the ‘stan’ in order to distinguish Khazakastan from its less dysfunctional neighbors. He proposed this knowing that his Country emerged from the breakup of the Soviet Union. Provided, a more sutible name such as “The Land of Kazakhs”. This echoes the frustration of among 17 million Kazakhs that are in the country. But this ultimately solves nothing provided it would risk alienating other countries who would be faced with the same challenge of coping the name change, re-designation in treaties and other official documents.

To decrease this issue. I propose that we allow Kazakhstan to make positive movements toward uniting the country by actively participated in world politics. Due to its positive decisions after World War ll. This would allow Kazakhstan to focus on its internal problems with the help of other countries. Instead of alienating itself from its own people.
