The People’s Republic of China believes the regulation of GMOs is a serious issue and must be addressed. The People’s Republic of China believes GMOs can be beneficial to the economy of many nations if regulated appropriately. The safety of the people consuming such GMOs should be the top priority of these countries. However, this need for safety should not diminish the economic benefits GMOs could bring to a country.
The People’s Republic of China would like to point out that the production of GMOs could, with proper research and safety regulations, not only increase the economic success of a nation, but also help prevent significant food shortages in such nations. The People’s Republic of China has experienced shortages of farmland that cannot accommodate the growing population size. To get more food out of less land, our nation has turned to GMOs to help bolster the economy and to increase food production. Developed GMOs, such as rice and cotton, have been introduced commercially with positive results. All such goods that are being used commercially have been labeled as a GMO product and consumers may utilize their own discretion in consuming such food. The nation of the People’s Republic of China assures and guarantees the safety of the people who consume GMO-based foods.
To conclude, if properly regulated and researched, the benefits of GMOs can be profound. The People’s Republic of China is a firm believer in the use of GMOs and hopes this committee can strive to ensure that the regulation of GMOs allow for the active pursuit and research of these products.
