The autonomous weapon system is “a weapon system that, once activated, can select and engage targets without further intervention by a human operator.” These forms of warfare are advancing the world and have many positives. Therefore, remote control warfare should not be banned because it is safer method of flying and people are not dying if they crash or get hit.
Djibouti is a small country in North Africa that hosts other major countries remote centers to control Autonomous Weapon Systems. As of May 2014, the United States has held a base for counter terrorism and drone strike operations in Djibouti. Because of the fact that Djibouti stations many control centers for Autonomous Weapon Systems, Djibouti is against the fact that the United Nations want to ban the use of them because the control centers are a major source of income for the country and hosting these centers comes with deals of protection.
Djibouti believes that sovereign states should be able to make their own decision on the use of these drones, and in addition, these countries that choose to use them must hold the understanding that their military leaders shall be held liable for the deaths of the innocent. Therefore, Djibouti believes that the United Nations should stop debating about autonomous weapon systems and leave it alone because of the benefits they have on the world and because when something does go wrong, people will be held accountable, even tho the UN believes there will not be.
