The concern and havoc caused by nuclear weapons has become more prominent after the tracking of them by the United Nations since the end of World War II. Although it is not clear that additional nukes are being produced, it is true that countries have been retiring old nuclear weapons and replacing with new ones. The Treaty of Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons as of 1970 aims to prevent the spread of nuclear weapons and weapons technology, to promote cooperation in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, and further the goal of achieving nuclear disarmament. Morocco believes that the NPT has been successful over the last 46 years? Nuclear energy has been an up and coming source of power for multiple countries in the UN of the 21st century. Since the 1970s, the number of nuclear power reactors has not increased dramatically because of fears of leaks and concerns about how to store and eventually destroy nuclear waste. Many countries now use it to provide electricity as well as a main fuel source for marine propulsion for ships in numerous navies. In 2013, it is estimated six countries use nuclear power to fuel their submarines.

The Kingdom of Morocco remains a party to the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty since 1970, and is recognized as a Non-Nuclear Weapon State. Morocco was one of one hundred and twenty five countries to sign the Joint statement on the Humanitarian Consequence of Nuclear Weapons from the UN First Committee and still fully complies with the IAEA’s inspection reports and positively considers their recommendations. The Kingdom of Morocco believes that the security of all nations lies rather in the peaceful coexistence, dialogue and mutual trust and not military power and the accumulation of Weapons of Mass Destruction or, WMD’s. as once again stated from the 2015 Review Conference of the NPT. Morocco also argues for and encourages harnessing this nuclear energy as a resource of power. Our nation has become one of the over forty five countries emerging with nuclear energy programs. Our plans on using the energy sustained from nuclear weapons. Morocco plans to create a nuclear power plant in 2016-2017 at Sidi Boulbra in cooperation with Russia’s Atomstroyexport, and desalination plant at Tan-Tan on the Atlantic coast in one direction cooperation with China. The desalination plant is using nuclear power to create potable water from ocean water.

Sustaining power from these otherwise harmful nuclear weapons is a positive and useful alternative. Generally speaking the radioactive material used in power plants is substantially less powerful than the nuclear materials used in making bombs. Different isotopes or different radioactive elements are used for each. The Special Political Committee should work together to create a collective set of guidelines on how to manage radioactive waste management, nuclear fuel production and transport, and compliance with The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the rest of the international community. Our nation argues for more regular inspections by the IAEA to all countries actively using nuclear power. Countries. The Kingdom of Morocco deplores the disposal of nuclear waste from outside States into the continent of Africa, and believes that measures should be taken to protect African interests. If the Special Political Committee can concise to the following terms, we can move step closer to creating comprehensive, agreeable terms regarding nuclear framework. Those countries that possess enough nuclear weapons to be considered a potential threat should be held legally accountable and criminally punished. Remaining weapons in possession should be harnessed into nuclear power to reduce the possibility of other countries from gaining nuclear weapons.
