South Korea believes that the nuclear containment of other countries (especially hostile ones) is of the utmost importance in the world today. The threat imposed by other countries with these devastating weapons is too great to be ignored and brushed under the carpet. When the United Nations come together diplomatically, my delegation looks to eliminate the possession of Nuclear Weapons and seek more protection for the citizens of our great republic. Of the countries that pose a great threat to the future of our people, the delegation of South Korea strongly believes that North Korea is the main aggressor to the country. If North Korea is to gain full nuclear capability it would be catastrophic to the integrity of the eastern world and North Koreas opposition. The United Nations must diplomatically defuse this situation and ensure the safety of tomorrow.
The challenge in ensuring that countries will agree upon the restrictions placed to keep nuclear weapons in safe hands lies within the countries own security. When we come together to compromise on the handling of Nuclear weapons we need to take into account the views from all sides that are given. Offering a voice to all countries; big, or small, docile, or hostile will be the most successful way to create a positive solution for everyone. Small under represented countries should have their voice taken into account with equal importance. During war time small territories become assimilated into larger ones due to the expansion of larger countries and the threats posed if they refuse to join their conglomerate. The sense of security offered by nuclear weapons is not one that is to be accepted by the United Nations, the use of these weapons is too threatening to the entire world in the case of war.
Taking into account the possibility of another World War the body of delegates need to address the scenario of nuclear weapon usage. As we have seen in the era of the cold war, countries constantly would threaten each other with the usage of nuclear weapons. The countries involved knew that the outcome of nuclear weapon usage would end in a concept called M.A.D (Mutually Assured Destruction). The threat this poses is just as relevant today with hostile countries such as North Korea threatening to use its weapons of mass destruction on the United States. A scenario like this occurring would dissolve ties between countries and force large militaristic powers to take sides, ultimately causing another World War. To address this issue the delegation of Korea would like to enforce the notion of increasing the speed of disposal for Weapons of Mass Destruction.
