When examined, the human body is generally made up of 70% water. There can be serious health repercussions for those who do not have access to water for up to 3 days. This goes to show how important water, especially clean water, is a vital part of a healthy lifestyle. There are millions of people worldwide who do not have access to potable water. The ability to clean drinking water is a basic human right, and no matter where you are from, everyone deserves clean safe drinking water.
Within our own borders, we have in the past had an issue with our water. Despite being surrounded by water we have had issues with the drinking water. It was found that Greece and Japan both had issues of there being excessive amounts of Manganese in our drinking water. The issue arose from dry-cell batteries that were buried underneath the earth and there was a leakage into the water source. Symptoms included lethargy, increased muscle tone, tremor, and mental disturbances. As well there are the occasion drought on some of our smaller coastal islands, but there are no immediate repercussions facing the entire country,
The solutions that Greece has come up with is to go through and ensure that our citizens have the ability to reach clean water. We hope to create better water filtration systems to ensure that our water supply is clean. In regard to the drought, we propose that dams are built in order to keep all of the water in. We hope that our fellow European Union members further push this motion.
