The country of Finland has dealt with several disease outbreaks in the past. The country was affected by an epidemic in 2002 of the Sindbdis virus (SINV) which people were being infected by through the bite of mosquitos. Another large outbreak for Finland was the spread of BCG disease that happened from the year 2002 and went on through the year 2006. The country of Finland was also hit with Newcastle Disease (ND) which had a large impact within the country.
Diseases such as the Newcastle Disease have the ability of affecting large amounts of animal populations such as birds. It can then spread to a country’s poultry population. It can hit hard on the a country who is very reliant on the animals to support the country and its economy not only through trade, but also as a large food source for their population. The wide spread of disease can stop trade, take people out of the work force, and have a large effect on their food sources.
When these diseases begin to hit a country it is very important for them to act fast, but logically. Informing the people within the country of the state of the situation and the steps of their plan of action. In the past unethical methods of using different vaccines that were not approved for certain countries caused widespread distrust and created more problems. It is essential that the country uses ethical and safe methods to deal with the outbreak to prevents backlash and further issues and to keep the people informed to create trust in the situation and government.
