In 2014 there was an Ebola outbreak. In 2015-2016 there was a Zika outbreak. We are still dealing with these two viruses in addition to Tuberculosis and Malaria. Currently, Singapore has had outbreaks of Zika and HIV, but our economy is fairly stable. Since Zika is a fast spreading virus, it's necessary that the countries of WHO come together to help make sure we keep countries economies stable while respecting cultures. This can be achieved by funded research.
How can countries keep their economies stable while eradicating viruses like Ebola and Zika? In Singapore, the first Zika outbreak occurred on August 27th of 2016. As of October 18th, Singapore has over 400 cases. Singapore has the patients with the Zika virus in hospitals; since currently there is no vaccine, Singapore is helping research to better understand Zika so it can properly get eradicated. Singapore is currently only focusing on solving the Zika outbreaks in the country. In the case of Singapore being overrun by Zika, Singapore’s oil, repair, biotechnology, and tourism industries would fall out.
Singapore would like to see Zika eradicated. Every country can start with funded research. The more research that happens, the more possible vaccines come to fix these viruses. We could use funds from the UN's funding. We could also educate the people about what would happen if we don't eradicate these viruses. This would possibly encourage them to donate to the cause.
