With nearly 75% of the world population having access to the internet, it is critical to ensure that all of its users have the ability to voice and share opinions. However, certain circumstances bring complications to the idea of internet freedom. In some places where propaganda and radical ideology can be spread easily; I believe it is in our best interest to implement a system of control to areas of high risk. It is also in our best interest to create a system of blocking dangerous sites without creating a loophole where undictated censorship can occur. Net neutrality, by definition is; the principle that Internet service providers should enable access to all content and applications regardless of the source, and without favoring or blocking particular products or websites. While I do not believe complete internet freedom would be the greatest option, I do believe that the idea of net neutrality should be the foundation to any policies having to do with usage of the internet.
Within Morocco; radical rebel movements pose more threat than the spread of radical religious views, with the complications within the western Sahara, sites relating the rebel movement (polisario) have been removed from accessibility. Also sites contributing to defamation of the royal family have been blocked, as these are likely to be stemming from the polisario movement.
As stated earlier we hold Internet neutrality in the highest regards and feel that it should be the foundation for any policies regarding to internet safety. I also believe it is in the best interest of our country (The Kingdom of Morocco) and the entirety of the UN to take in regard how dangerous internet sites can be when building policies. The Internet can be used to spread information and voice opinions, but can also be used as a tool to spread radical ideology and terrorism. As these issues not only effect your country, but your neighboring countries. Please also take into consideration that selective removal of sites is absolutely not a way in which unjustified censorship can occur.
