In Pakistan, the term net neutrality is used by a handful of people of digital industrial bodies. Since 2009, Pakistan has had no legislation about the Internet due to the expiration of the Prevention of Electronic Crime Ordinance. Parliament is drafting a new legislation that could take place next year, discussing the integration between net neutrality and security.
Pakistan is willing to work with other nations on net neutrality. Being a country that has many people who do not have access to the Internet, our government is is working to provide our citizens Internet with the ability to use it to their expense. The new legislation passing through has brought concerns about security and fraud that can occur on the Internet. Under the ministry, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority dictates the Internet and intends to promote and clean friendly environment that allows competition and protects the consumers. Sites are closely monitored to protect citizens. As Pakistan’s use of the Internet has increased from the early 2000’s, more citizens are creating and innovating sites that allow freedom to all.The nation of Pakistan also stresses that security should be enforced among the website to prevent copyright and piracy.
Due to the influx of Internet users, Pakistan is still undecided on allowing net neutrality in our country. The nation of Pakistan would be in favor of a resolution that contains clauses that will allow freedom of innovation, creative thinking, and economic growth, yet still maintain security and a government’s ability to act in its nation’s best interest.
