Net neutrality is an idea set in motion in order to protect the internet from companies jacking up rates on businesses using their internet. Our committee must discuss how to iron out the Internet so that big companies don’t take over and the internet can stay a free public space for all. To elaborate if businesses were to have free reign than certain websites could be blocked, slowed down, or consumers directed towards different websites which would give companies a monopoly over the internet and people wouldn’t be able to access everything, restricting use of the internet and turning it into exclusively a business thing
Singapore has very strong net neutrality rules in place to protect the consumer whilst also keeping the businesses semi happy.
Singapore also won’t be affected because the framework that’s been set up is. Singapore won’t be affected harshly because their laws are strict enough to keep the businesses in check so that the consumers aren’t in danger of having rates jacked up, or slowing down certain websites so consumers have to go to different ones while also being loose enough that businesses aren’t failing in singapore.
As for other countries and resolutions, Singapore suggests doing the Balancing Act that we have done. What we’ve done is set up a framework that is able to keep both sides interests intact so as to keep the consumers and internet secure while also keeping the businesses profitable.
In conclusion, keep it so that businesses have enough freedom to stay profitable but not completely shutdown the internet to the mass public.
