Since the creation of the internet there have been restrictions on what can be seen and what can’t be. Recently people have been pushing for net neutrality which is the principle that internet service providers and governments should treat all information equally by not discriminating or charging fees based on user content or site. We Switzerland feel that people should not be restricted by the government online.
In our support of this cause we have created a code of conduct that allows users to use the content, services applications, hardware, and software of their choice. This action has been put into effect in Switzerland and received positive reinforcement. Many UN members such as Chile and the US have also pushed for net neutrality and have had very successful results. In Chile the law passing net neutrality was overwhelmingly voted in. In the united states case the law has proved very popular with applications like Netflix bringing in more content that was previously not allowed by the government.
Switzerland feels that all country’s should introduce net neutrality into their society’s. If the UN can convince it members to embrace this law rather then deny it maybe then people can in certain country's country's can actually find out what happened on June 4th 1989. Or that the fact that some people believe that the Holocaust was a hoax. The entire purpose of this law is to enlighten people. The last time governments tried to restrict peoples flow of knowledge the enlightenment occurred. When all is said and done governments should listen to the lessons of the past. Net neutrality is not a bad thing.
