With the fast pace of technology, and the benefits people have with said technology, such as online purchasing, communication, and entertainment; it is important to understand that the internet should be accessible to everyone. The United States of America believes that the internet should not be restricted or censored to people who want to spread ideas, communicate, and express themselves. “We believe that access to knowledge and information is a basic human right and that there isn't a sovereign right to override that basic human right.” (Daniel Sepulveda). On February 26, 2015 the FCC ruled that both fixed and broadband service companies are not allowed to throttle, block, or create “fast lanes” in order to influence the people’s access to the internet. The FCC passed this ruling because the US believes that the internet should be for the people and everyone should have a right to it. Open internet also benefits the global economy, contributing to over $141 billion dollars annually and creates 6.6 million jobs for the United States alone. In order to maintain global trade, countries must not put up digital barriers that would harm open internet. Net neutrality is a tool to promote communication, collaboration, entertainment, and business globally; that is why the United States believes that the internet should be able to access for everyone in order to make a more progressive, wealthier, and understanding world.
