Indiscriminate weapons are unable to determine the difference between military targets and innocent civilians. With these landmines, bombs, biological weapons and other indiscriminate weapons being used around the world, it is important that the United Nations creates a coherent and specific resolution.
As of right now, Argentina feels it is too easy to bypass current regulations on indiscriminate weapons. Argentina’s foreign policies of disarmament and peaceful resolutions dictates Argentina’s belief of having a short term solution of removing stockpiles and making the indiscriminate weapons unavailable during conflict, followed up by the long term solution of stopping indiscriminate weapons at its roots by slowing down or even stopping the production, through heavy regulations in treaties. Argentina will also look favorably on meeting every few years to update these treaties to include any new advances in technology of indiscriminate weapons.
When looking for potential resolutions, Argentina feels that two main items must be addressed: including all indiscriminate weapons, as not to leave any gaps in the resolution, and reducing the use of indiscriminate weapons as much as possible. Argentina feels the best way to achieve this would have the United Nations work directly with countries that contain indiscriminate weapons to lower the number of these weapons in that individual country. Argentina will not support any resolutions that fail to cover all of the indiscriminate weapons. This is due to loopholes being created, allowing countries to still use indiscriminate weapons.
Argentina believes that the process of reduction of indiscriminate weapons needs to be accelerated through an international effort and corroboration.
