It is very apparent that the United Nations has not been using the power of global sports to it’s potential. Global sports events like the Olympics and the Fifa World Cup can be used as a driving factor for developments. In the past we have seen locations repeated. Though these events tend to be very pricey, they can also benefit economies. It is more beneficial to countries than it is a burden.
What countries deserve to host these events? Is it better to spread the wealth and get smaller countries involved? It would make things a bit more competitive if we set a new criteria for what a country needs to do in order to host a global affairs like these. If there are higher standards we will draw a larger pool of countries who can host. Using large sporting events can help clean up and develop countries. The economic benefit of hosting would be immense, spreading the wealth would only be fair.
A good resolution would have a new set of requirements for hosting countries. Going into debate we are ready to work with other delegations to come up with fair criteria. It would also discourage repeating locations within a certain time period. The new set of rules would include strict working conditions to ensure safe working environments when building stadiums. A good resolution will find it necessary to promote patriotism, and most importantly, unity.
It doesn’t have to be a very complex issue, sports will draw people from all around the globe. This will mean more tourist dollars into the host country’s economy. Though it is quite a hefty cost, the amount of tourists the event will draw will compensate for that.
Promoting peace and unity when coming together for sports, the world will mold to become more unified overall. The Fifa World Cup and Olympics can be used as tools to better the world we live in, so we should really utilize them as such. It is possible, and though new standards will promote competition, it can also inspire people to come together to enjoy sports.
