Background:Through the history of the issue lies the fact that after the Jewish people, who historically have gotten a bad hand, were searching for some land to claim their own in order to better themselves and their position post-holocaust. The land that they sought to take was that of their religious homeland in order to escape this persecution. However, the Palestinians had been living there for generations and as such had made community and government which they maintained, all of this has been eroded further and further as their land was taken for Israeli use. And the situation which has now turned to near all out war has been difficult for the UN to stop because of its history.
Past UN Actions: They UN has taken steps that established this issue by dividing the Palestinian land, officially, between mostly European Jews. And since this time they have been largely excluded from the Politics of the issue. Despite the fact that most countries voted for toothless motions for Israel to give back Palestinian land.
National Policy: Estonia supports conversations between the two sides and believes that a two state solution both can, and must be achieved by these negotiations. Movements such as BDS are ultimately harmful. And actions such as this taken by the UN will do nothing but make Israel feel attacked and unheard, instead of remaining neutral.
Solution: The UN should make it their utmost priority to get the two sides to sit together and agree upon fair borders. The two state solution should be sought after, preferably with borders from the 1967 map. And if either side chooses not to meet with the other in order to discuss the issue, then instead of BDS the UN should instead insist that they either meet or continue the war.
