It is obvious that throughout these years of conflict, not much has been accomplished. Tajikistan sees that this conflict has a more deeply rooted reason than that of just Arab Muslims versus Jews; it is dealing with the issues of territory and land. Palestine has made it very clear that they believe they deserve their land back from Israel. To try and solve this issue, in 1947, the United Nations passed a resolution that separated Palestine into an Arab state and a Jewish state. This resolution did not work well in action. The Arab Muslims did not agree to the terms, in believing that it was unfair, as that it was originally their land with their holy sites, and that they deserve to get it back. Along with this fact, some Palestinians are upset because of the Palestine Right of Return. During the war, many Palestinians were taken from their homeland and scattered all over the world. Many have tried to reenter, but they have been denied, and have become permanent refugees. They believe, and we agree, that an injustice has been done unless they are allowed to return to their home. Tajikistan believes that if a 2-state plan was enacted by the United Nations again, the result would be more violence and increased war, which is the opposite of the United Nations’ goal. As well as this, something that would have to be dealt with is the issue of common infrastructure ordeals, such as security, water, sewage, etc. It is important for the committee to address the following items: 1. What would constitute a good plan, if not a 2-state system, that would allow the two groups to live in peace? 2. Would a complete 1-state system ever work? 3. Would there be a way to merge the two groups? We believe that a good compromise might be for Palestine to gain their land back, as Israel does contain many holy Muslim sites, but both groups could live in peace in the region without any more war or fighting. In addition to this, we would be open to hearing Israel’s concerns, questions, and suggestions so they can be happy with the arrangement as well. Tajikistan does understand both sides of the matter, however. During the Cold War, we had been in a similar position, as we, and other countries like Afghanistan, Uzbekistan, and Pakistan, had all been stuck in the middle of a battle between Communism and Democracy, so we can see both sides of this issue, as it is a similar situation between the Arab Muslims and the Jewish population. To this note, we would like to extend our understanding to both sides of the disagreement, as we can see both sides. In a resolution, we would like to see peace be a main focus. That’s the element we believe needs to be focused on, worked on, and resolved before we can move onto other issues.
