The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been the cause of much death and suffering for too long. Although, Thailand is a close trade partner with the State of Israel, we recognize that the situation is dire and in order to create peace in the Middle East, there must be an economically stable environment for the palestinians. The lack of clearly defined borders combined with the inability to accept the other side’s claim have lead to a volatile and war torn Israel and Palestine. Many Israeli and Palestinian citizens suffer daily, it is the responsibility of the civilized world to help those poor souls. During the first intifada roughly 1,551 Palestinians and 421 Israeli were killed; the second intifada lead to roughly 6,890 Palestinians and 1,091 Israeli deaths. With such a high number of deaths the Israeli-Palestinian conflict must be the first priority.
This topic is of much importance to Thailand. Thailand released a statement January 2012 stating that Thailand recognizes the state of Palestine. During operation protective edge the Thai government stated that it supports a peaceful solution to the conflict and called on both sides to show restraint. It further stated that it will continue to support both the State of Israel and Palestine but will not condone any terrorist activity made by either side. It is the best interest of the world to find a peaceful solution between the two parties. It is the of the utmost importance to help the citizens of the the Israel-Palestine area. Thailand provides financial contribution towards the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees in the Near East. The United Nations should lay aside the delicate politics of the borders and focus on aiding the citizens of the war torn region. Between 2000 and 2007 4,228 Palestinians and 1.024 Israelis died; those numbers are far too high. Although the importance of a long lasting solution can not be understated, we must initially turn towards the needs of the people. The 2014 typhoon Rammasun cost $7.21 billion to repair; the merger $7.7 billion supplied to Palestine by the Paris donors conference is clearly not sufficient.
The citizens of the Israel-Palestine region have suffered greatly, providing aid to the region must be of the utmost priority. Thailand proposes adding sanctions to Israel for destroying hundreds of UN funded development projects since 2001, and causing €23 million in damages during the 2014 Gaza war. Thailand would further implore the United nations to broker a lasting peace between both sides.
