The State of Israel is deeply concerned with the current situation in the State of Georgia. The conflict in the State of Georgia started this past summer when South Ossetia militia engaged in armed conflict with some of the State of Georgia’s troops, violating a previously implemented cease-fire. The groups in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, regions of the State of Georgia that wish to gain independence, are backed by the Russian Federation. The Russian Federation says it is backing its own citizens, because many citizens of South Ossetia and Abkhazia have dual citizenship in both the State of Georgia and the Russian Federation. The Russian Federation has recognized these regions as independent, while the State of Georgia has not.
The State of Israel supports the State of Georgia; however, it wishes to see benefits for both parties involved in the situation. The State of Israel does not want poor relations with either the State of Georgia or the Russian Federation. The State of Georgia gains the State of Israel’s support because the State of Israel backs the State of Georgian pipelines. These pipelines are beneficial not only to Israel, but to our neighboring countries as well.
The State of Israel also feels strongly about the State of Georgia because its greatest ally is the United States of America and the United States of America strongly supports the State of Georgia. The United States of America is a powerhouse in the world and can greatly influence other nations because of its strong position in the world. Through the United States and its allies, Israel wishes to mediate between the State of Georgia and the Russian Federation in order to broker peace.
