South Africa firmly believes that international drug trade is clearly a problem that needs to be stopped. A rapid increase of violence due to drug trade can be seen in many countries today. Drug trafficking is one of the most widespread issues in today’s world. Not a single nation South Africa, can say that they are truly free of this despicable problem.
In South Africa methamphetamine is called tik or tik-tik. Children as young as eight are abusing the substance, smoking it in crude glass vials made from light bulbs. Since methamphetamine is easy to produce, the substance is manufactured locally in staggering quantities. After the new South African government came into power, the South African Narcotics Bureau was disbanded, allowing dealers unprecedented freedom of operation and causing a simultaneous drop in prices and rise in availability. In Cape Town the tik epidemic has long reached the suburbs. Half of the residents of Paradise Park, Juan holds, are addicts of some sort, no matter what skin color. And many of them run the risk of ending up in Falkenberg, one of Cape Town’s psychiatric clinics.
Many people are addicted to drugs in South Africa which is a big ordeal. This is also bad because most people don’t realize the effects it has on them. The way to reduce the drug influence would to be either set a law on the drug or ban it throughout all of South Africa. South Africa also deals with many financial issues due to the drug trafficking throughout South Africa.
