For almost the past 100 years the Kurdish people haven’t had a place to call home. At the end of the First World War they were given land, which was taken from the dying Ottoman Empire, but then less than 10 years later everything was stripped from them. Now in 2014 they are still in the same relative place, but enjoy none of the rights that come with a sovereign nation. They are persecuted every day and as a culture are not allowed to flourish, all because of what was written down a single piece of paper almost 100 years ago.
To the United States we see no reason why the Kurdish people should not have their own sovereign state of Kurdistan (or what ever they want to call themselves). Time and time again the Kurdish people have proven themselves to be worthy of a place to call home. However now is a crucial time for not only talk, but also action. As we all know the Middle East is a “Powder Keg” and no country wants to be the one who sets it off. But as the United Nations we need to look at the larger picture. Are we going to stand by and watch as these innocent people are being denied basic rights? As one of the leading members of the UN, the United States does not believe that we can wait any longer to provide aid to the Kurdish people.
In addition The United States of America also feels that we need to provide aid and land to the Kurdish people because they are crucial to peace in the Middle East. With the crisis of ISIS on the rise, the Kurdish people have stepped up time and time again in countries such as Iraq and Turkey. These brave people are putting their lives on the line in order to stop the monster that is ISIS, and The United States of America believe that it is time to reward them for that effort.
