The military spending for high tech weapon systems in the the Democratic Republic of the Congo is relatively low. Recently emerging from civil wars, the DRC is not a large figure in the high tech weapon systems neighborhood. The DRC has not developed any of its own type of systems but are moderate importers when it comes to firearms. The bulk of them coming from Eastern Europe and a few middle-eastern countries. As of right now, embargoes have been placed on imports and exports of firearms in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. But armed groups in the east have found ways to get these weapons illegally.
Stance
In the DRC, we are for trade in these weapon systems as long as embargoes are heavily enforced and followed. (Get the weapons legally) As long as the weapons are not going to the wrong people.
Effect
Recently mentioned before, armed groups in the east are still importing weapons from Balkans and other European countries. In order for our country to move forward as a whole, firearms must not be imported illegally. If any high tech systems were to enter the country in the wrong hands, the fragile infrastructure of the nation could be jeopardized. We are trying to rebuild and advanced weapons are not needed if they do not belong to the government.
Solution
Embargoes must continue to be heavily enforced and followed. The illegal import of firearms needs to be minimized. This has to be done by finding the root of the problem and cutting it off there. Sign treaties with other countries to halt firearm imports to entering the nation. If weapons continue to come in, conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo cannot be resolved.
