In the past, a great number of United Nations member states have come under fire at the U.N. for the implementation of policies some deemed to be ethically questionable. Such issues and concerns rightly must be addressed and resolved domestically via non-military means–within the confines of international and domestic law. Every nation must be able to exercise self-determination without fear of interference, specifically from the coercive actions of foreign agents. Sudan believes in an international order that respects and protects the right of every nation to be sovereign. National sovereignty is key at this time in history. We reject some countries whose actions appear to be modern-day imperialism.
As a fellow member of the African Union (AU), we appreciate the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s plight and believe change is needed. We strongly oppose the violence that rebels have brought to the government of Democratic Republic of the Congo; however, the international community needs to stay at a distance and respect this sovereign country. Above all else, national sovereignty must be held sacrosanct. Sudan believes that the Democratic Republic of the Congo is capable of resolving its issues without outside interference. Our paramount aspiration is that the Democratic Republic of the Congo shall exercise its ability to resolve political conflicts via diplomatic and domestic means without the imposition of foreign influence(s). As such, Sudan wishes to see an equitable and lasting peace in the region insofar as it is achieved within the doctrine of national sovereignty.
