The awful situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo is saddening and discouraging but it not yet a situation that the UN cannot fix. South Africa recognizes that many other nations have contributed money and aid to DRC but this is not enough. South Africa was hopeful that the Goma Peace Accords would help solve the conflict but now recent news has reported otherwise. The extreme hate and violence in The Dominican Republic of Congo needs to be put to a stop. South Africa is so concerned about this issue that we hosted the Extra-Ordinary Summit of the SADC heads of State and Government. Here all African nations were invited to come up with solutions on how to make Africa a better place and how to end the imediate danger like what is happening in the DRC. We hope that this conference will help set in place more action from not only South Africa but other nations around the world.
The DRC has plenty of natural resources, which is contributing to the problem along with all the Rwandan refugees. South Africa would like to see an immediate ceasefire by all armed men and militia. Also the Extra-Ordinary Summit of the SADC would like to see the establishment of humanitarian corridor throughout the area to ensure that there are people to address immediate issues, the agreement that everyone will follow the Goma peace accord, and to send peacekeeping forces directly to the source of many main conflicts. South AFrica is aware that these things take time but we are also aware that many are dying over in the DRC and that calls for the quickest action the United Nations can provide.
