As a South-East Central European country, the nation of Romania naturally finds itself deeply concerned with the actions taken by Russia in Georgia, as well as what tempted them to move so ruthlessly. Parts of Romania’s own territories themselves were occupied after World War II by the USSR, so should the nation of present day Russia be reclaiming their satellite nations, Romania would obviously feel threatened and think to take measures that would prevent further violence from taking place.
Some questions we could ask ourselves might be, What was Russia’s justification in their invasion of Georgia, What were their intentions for the post-invasion, How can we prevent this from occurring in the future? It is apparent that another invasion of any country by Russia would be absolutely unacceptable, as was the invasion of Georgia. Can we think of any changes that could have been made to prevent this from happening now, in hindsight? We must learn from our mistakes and take all possible peaceable measures to forestall a repeat performance from the nation of Russia, whatever that may take. The Russian Federation is a force to be reckoned with, and shall be reckoned with.
As Russia’s foreign relations with Georgia were worse than any other post-soviet state, it is no small wonder they were unable to solve the matter in a peaceable manner. Romania would like to see Russia’s relations with all post-soviet states improved, be it through dialogue between said nations. The nation of Romania hopes to address this situation in a way that will prevent any future conflicts.
