The Republic of Sudan notes that the crisis in Georgia has come to the attention of the International community. The root of the crisis comes from two dissenting groups of people in South Ossetia and Abkhazia, who wish to achieve their own independence. Currently the International community recognizes these two regions to be part of Georgia. The decision to separate from the state of Georgia must come from the people itself, not some other country. The Russian Federation has violated the national sovereignty of Georgia by invading South Ossetia and Abkhazia without provocation. What they have done is unjustifiable and should not be encouraged or tolerated.
The Russian Federation has cited reports of humanitarian rights violations as justification of invasions into South Ossetia and Abkhazia. These are not proper reasons. The Russian Federation has no right to say what is wrong or right except as part of the International community. One country cannot place itself above others and police other nations. A similar incident has happened in Iraq and the result of that interference is obvious. If the Russian Federation has any disputes with the government of Georgia, such matters should have been reported to the United Nations and then the United Nations would make a decision; that decision should be enforced by the entire International community, not just a single country.
The conflict can be resolved without further suffering of the people. The military campaign by the Russian Federation and Georgia should cease immediately. The International body will then determine whether the actions of the Russian Federation were justifiable. The people of South Ossetia and Abkhazia shall be given a chance to negotiate with the government of Georgia to reach a decision on the issue of succession. The Republic of Sudan calls for both nations to heed the advice of the International community and work out a viable solution to this unnecessary conflict.
