Nuclear technology can either benefit the world or destroy it. Spain has embraced the search to find a better fuel, and we believe with the correct application of fissile material the world will drastically change for the better. Spain has built and now utilizes nine nuclear power plants successfully; these power plants supply 20% of electricity in Spain. Spain hopes to build more nuclear power plants in Spain and see them spread across other nations. Nuclear reactors provide clean and efficient fuel, Spain believes that nuclear power is the future, but nuclear technology wrongly used for violence and destruction will cost the earth its peaceful and promising future.
In this committee we hope to increase peace and decrease the fear of nuclear technology. Spain has signed both the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (CTBT) and the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPF). Countries that are party to the NPF agreed to refrain from producing and sharing nuclear weapons as well as disarmament. Spain hopes that the few countries that have not yet signed the treaties will join quickly. The regulations on the development of nuclear technology need rigor. The research on complete nuclear reactions and nuclear waste management needs to continue.
Span hopes to work peacefully and productively with the other member states of the United Nations to produce a resolution that will further control the development of nuclear technology. We hope that more and more and more countries will sign the current treaties limiting nuclear technology and refrain from creating, testing, and spreading nuclear weapons.
Spain believes that countries that develop nuclear technology for the purpose of proving that they are developed and powerful nations stand a threat to worldwide peace and producing any resolutions that limit the development of nuclear technology
