Across the globe, upstart rebellions, labeled “popular uprisings,” have toppled legitimate governments. Outside nations have supported these so-called popular uprising in an attempt to increase their influence over the newly formed governments, building alliances with nations that hold a strategic or economic advantage. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea rebukes such behavior on the international stage and favors a resolution defending legitimate governments.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea demands the United Nations recognize only the incumbent government, for the a UN to support these anti-governmental movements will only fuel them to escalate their dissent. These dissenters, with the claim of defending their people’s rights, receive the assistance of the international community in their quest to undermine the legitimacy of long-standing governments. Moreover, Western nations have often supported these uprisings individually, perpetuating violence to overthrow even close allies. The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea believes the United Nations should pass a resolution reprimanding these self-interested nations for capitalizing at the expense of the legitimate governments by selling weapons, provoking dissenters, and challenging the legitimacy of the troubled nation.
Lastly, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea advocates for a resolution to remove weapon limitations. Serving as a model, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea maintains peace both within and along its borders because, with a powerful weapons program, the people of the DPRK do not question the strength or legitimacy of the Dear Leader Kim Jong-Il. The DPRK believes the international community should refrain from interference in the national sovereignty of any nation. Every nation has the right to build up its strength, enabling it to preserve order within its borders and prevent any challenges to the true legitimacy of its government.
The Democratic People’s Republic of Korea hopes these set of measures can form the basis of a strong resolution to help ensure the international community can solve the future problems of these “popular uprisings.”
