Topic: Legitimacy of Government during Popular Uprising
Country: Afghanistan
Delegate Name: Shakir Khan
School: Fishers High School
Afghanistan strongly believes that the legitimacy of government during popular uprising should not be recognized because due to past precedent of the UN never recognizing a political uprising such as the political uprising of the Taliban and how they were not recognized.
The people of Afghanistan believe that governments during a political uprising should not be recognized because of the history Afghanistan has with this topic. It is evident that Afghanistan has had diplomatic troubles in the past and there is no secret to Taliban’s presence in Afghanistan, where as their efforts to control Afghanistan during some points in time. During these points in time the United Nations has not recognized the Taliban as the governing body of Afghanistan and has always held Afghanistan to be known as the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, not the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan. The Taliban was recognized as the governing body by only three countries, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and United Arab Emirates. The United Nations did not recognize the Taliban’s rule as a governing body and Afghanistan feels that this was the right thing to do, and due to precedent believes that that should happen to other countries as well.
However, Afghanistan would like to stress that the country may be under ill-advised rule that governing body during a political uprising should not be considered legitimate. In the past, Afghanistan has never recognized these governing bodies and believes Afghanistan never will. The people of Afghanistan believe that these parties can sometimes be corrupt and not in the best interest for that country. So the country of Afghanistan would like to stress that these countries not be legitimized by the United Nations and should not be recognized. The country of Afghanistan would also like to stress that while this topic is very sensitive the United Nations must remain neutral and not intervene aside from diplomatically, whereas sending troops. This ensures that the host country has their national sovereignty and this right has not been invaded on. The topic of national sovereignty arises from the conflict that the United Nations might get involved physically and Afghanistan believes that aside form diplomatically outlawing these popular governments the United Nations does not intervene in any other way like the United Nations has in the past.
The country of Afghanistan believes that the appropriate solution keeping all the commentary stated above in mind would be to not legitimize said countries with a government that aroused during a political uprising. Afghanistan believes this would be the best if not the only option keeping the nation’s national sovereignty in mind. The people of Afghanistan believe that this situation is appropriate for this situation and it is applicable to the member country as well as the other countries in the United Nations.
