Maldives recognizes that with the recent earthquake and Tsunami in Japan, and the devastating earthquake in Haiti, that the United Nations has a duty to assist those nations who are attempting to rebuild following a natural disaster.

While many nations can afford to rebuild with minimal aid, it is clear that the majority of nations at risk cannot rebuild without substantial aid coming from wealthy nations. Their should be a system set up where UN inspectors will go to at-risk nations and determine the amount of aid that would be required to fully assist in rebuilding the damaged country. Also, the inspectors should notice what could be done to prevent a catastrophic disaster, and use steps to renovate building, and to teach the nation's public what to do in case of a natural disaster, so their is a limit to the amount of damage that would be caused.

The first thing that should happen following a natural disaster is that personal trained in rescue work and supplies should be sent to this nation under the coordination of one country and the damaged country to eliminate redundancy, and to ensure all the areas receive the care they need. Next, the UN should assist in providing money, and gear to construction agencies INSIDE the country to begin the demolishing of ruined building, and the revamping of damaged buildings. The focus of the UN's efforts should be in preventative measures to stop a major loss of human life.

The UN has a responsibility to determine a plan in order to assist then nations that does not have the ability to rebuild their own country.
