The Earthquakes and other natural disasters that have happened in Haiti, the United States, Japan, and many more places are very devastating. Tons of people loose their homes, and some people even loose loved ones. Argentina hopes the United Nations will help all these countries to create a long-term solution on how to rebuild their cities and communities. Argentina wants every place that has been hurt by a natural disaster to have a plan for the future. However, Argentina does not believe the cities that are devastated most should be relocated.
The places in the world that are more regularly hit by natural disasters need to be prepared for them. In New Orleans, measures are being made by building storm barriers and levees. The United Nations, with help from the United Nations Development Program, should provide countries with less money, like Haiti, funding to put up their own safety measures.
Countries should have a plan for what to do after a severe disaster strikes. People should know where to go until the area they live in is ready to live in again. The United Nations should take the time to help each country that needs help creating a plan so there is not overcrowding in the destroyed cities or people not knowing where to go.
Cities that are devastated should never be forced to relocate. The cities could just be relocated to somewhere just as dangerous. Also, the people living there might not want to leave their hometown or business. The world is becoming evolved enough that the United Nations should be providing a way to protect the cities.
One way is to rebuild cities, like Port-au-Prince, with more stable materials. The United Nations should use some of their funds to help Haiti do this so the people of the city will not have to relocate.
In conclusion, the United Nations should give money to countries that are suffering from a natural disaster so they can rebuild their areas and be more prepared next time disaster strikes. The United Nations should also provide a customized plan for each area that suffers permanent damage from a natural disaster.
