Hello, Joe again, but my official title is Sir Joseph Mark Consolla I of the Islamic Republic of Iran! I would like to start off by pointing out a little known fact about Iran. Many people might not assume this, but we are one of the leading countries in the world in providing humanitarian aid, especially in recent times. Just a month ago, with Somalia suffering from famine and drought, Iran was one of the first countries to rush to their aid. The Iranian Red Crescent Society (from here on referred to as the IRCS) set up a camp in the Somalian capital of Mogadishu which accomodates 200 households. This May, we sent a 36-ton shipment of medical equipment and food supplies to Libya for civilians and refugees fleeing the conflict. Also this past month, we have donated $100 million for the rehabilitation of the rain afflicted peoples in Pakistan. However, I am not here to tell you about how great we are at providing humanitarian aid, as great as we may be! I am here to explain how we can improve our overall efforts in providing aid to countries in need of it.
The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the biggest factor in protecting humanitarian aid workers in dangerous conflict zones. We are proposing military aid from each country to secure conflict zones. Who provides the military aid and how much can be debated on, but some factors could include the size of the countries military and whether or not they are currently involved in an armed conflict. I feel that this will help not only in protecting aid workers, but also in increasing interest civilians volunteering for humanitarian aid programs. With increased protection, more people will feel safe about going to a dangerous conflict zone, than if they were just thrust into a dangerous military conflict with no protection of their own.
