The Islamic Republic of Iran believes that a country should not engage in a barbaric action such as war over earthly possessions as conflict minerals. So much has been lost to conflicts such as these, but not much has been gained. Many men, women, and children are lost to such conflicts while very few of the rewards are reaped by the loved ones of those who are lost. Our stance is simple, leave other countries out of the conflict, and let them handle their own affairs over conflict minerals. Many people are lost to the horrors of war, or to the emotional conflict that is set upon them after seeing battle. A recent event that is still embedded into our psyche would be the recent Afghanistan Weapons of Mass Destruction issue. Steps were taken, lives were lost, not one WMD was found. In short, lives were wasted in the search for absolutely nothing.
The United Nations should remember that all countries are funded with millions of dollars so each government can function and solve situations as they deem necessary. With this in mind, Iran recognizes the fact that the government of each country has their own problems, homelessness, poverty, and the list goes on. So why spend the hard earned money of the people on other countries? Use the money given to help the people of your country and leave the bloodshed of war behind. Let each government dictate their own response to things such as conflict minerals. That is why the people give their established government money, it should stay in that governments own power to decide what action will be taken, not an outside source.
