The situation in Somalia has attracted much international attention not only through the nation's seeming helplessness but through its significant global consequences. China observes all of these concerns and believes that there are scenarios in which anarchy could potentially be eradicated from the war-torn country. One way to stop anarchy would be to stop the tremendous pirate activity that takes place off the coast of Somalia. Any help that nations outside of the Somali region might possibly give to Somalia is greatly discouraged due greatly to this hostility. If the threat of pirating were diminished, Somalia would gain the economic activity that all nations desire in these economic conditions.
In addition to attempting to eliminate the vast pirate network that conducts business in the seas around Somalia, the various food and resource crises occurring in Somalia need to be stopped. It is important not to forget these issues or to push them aside while planning strategies to help the country. China believes that helping Somalia gain its agricultural independence would be more effective than continuing to distribute food and aid to Somalia. The need for aid seems to be rising in the nation, and keeping up the flow of aid to Somalia is becoming more burdensome for other countries.
The presence of al-Shabaab in Somalia also needs to be stopped as this poses a terrorism threat to the whole world. The possible links between al-Shabaab and al-Qaeda are still only theoretical, but there would be considerable danger if the groups did work together. If al-Shabaab is stopped, Somalia's Transitional Federal Government would gain power and the global terrorism community would suffer. The possible elimination of the al-Shabaab would greatly help Somalia, but would only stop one of the many warring parties that fight for control of the nation. The situation in Somalia calls for a large amount of international assistance in attempting to unite all Somalians under one legitimate government.
