The outbreak of Civil War strongly affected Somalia’s central authority, leaving the government with no control over most of the land. Since this catastrophe, Somalia has suffered from increase in famines, violence, and anarchical control over the land. Not only has this lack of central government affected Somalia itself, but piracy has spread from the country. Ship raiding has become an issue worldwide, and is originating from Somalia, making this problem global as well as national.
Only until recently have groups come out in an attempt to restore political unity in Somalia. Of these groups, the most potential candidate is the internationally recognized Transitional Federal Government. This party is working to reestablish central government and a working governmental structure, and is prepared to establish a national military to serve as a defense mechanism. However, the issue at hand is that this group needs international support in order to succeed. This is why Thailand believes that it is completely necessary to support the Transitional Federal Government.
Since the absence of a central authority in Somalia, political and economic stability have gone downhill. It is important to reestablish this governmental structure in order to keep problems from turning more global. Piracy has already begun due to the lack of central government control over the land in Somalia. It is crucial to institute power to the Transitional Federal Government. Support of the Transitional Federal Government can help stop Somalia’s issues of famine, violence, and anarchical control over land. This governmental structure would help a central authority keep peace and control throughout Somalia. We could offer help and support in different ways in order to maintain worldwide tranquility.
Thailand has recently supported other countries in acts to keep peace. We are prepared to help Somalia sustain a lasting government that will prevent further acts of international and national violence and famine. Support could be offered through various methods such as peacekeeping troops. Some costs could also be covered through the offering of revenues to help support the transitional federal government. Thailand believes that all available support should be offered to Somalia in an attempt to help the poverty-stricken country and stop the world piracy from continuing.
