Cyber warfare is a relatively new form of warfare that is becoming increasingly prevalent in today’s world. It can be cause by states attacking rival nations, or a renegade faction with no affiliation with any government. As the UN, we must develop systems to combat hackers and also put in place procedures for identifying the culprits of cyber attacks. Cyber warfare is something that any one country will have a hard time dealing with on its but if we take this issue on globally, we can put a stop to cyber warfare.
Cyber warfare has been an issue in the United Kingdom. Lockheed Martin, a defence firm, was under attack from cyber terrorists. The Ministry of Defence has begun to recruit hundreds of cyber experts to bolster our computerized defenses. This action is part of a 650 million euro fund to deal with cyber security. We have added the National Cyber Security Programme to our Strategic Defence and Security Review in 2010. With this addition, we hope to increase funding for programs and departments devoted to combating cyber terrorism. In the future, the UK hopes to take even further steps toward increasing cyber security measures and preventing cyber attacks.
We must fight cyber warfare on a global basis. The UK hopes to work with other nations to create committees and programs that would fight cyber terrorism with counter-hacking and increased cyber defense. With a global committee designed with the intent of fighting cyber terrorism, we can increase efforts to end cyber attacks. Investigations into other nations are something that we must be careful with, as we should try to stop cyber attacks without impeding on a nation’s sovereignty. That being said, countries with malicious intent to attack an adversary’s cyber security should be dealt with to prevent future attacks. The UK believes that every country should begin to invest in increasing cyber security measures, as cyber warfare is an issue that will be even larger in the next few years. We must prepare ourselves for the worst possible outcome and come together as the United Nations to fight cyber terrorism.
