The Israeli-Palestinian Conflict has been ongoing since 1948. Post WWII, the State of Israel was formed and since the formation of the State of Israel the conflict has become worse. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which has been an ongoing issue since 1948, has caused harm to the lives of many citizens in the region. Wars such as the Six-Day War and Yom Kippur War have been fought between the two states for sovereignty over the region. The creation of the state of Israel has caused outrage from Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, and other nations in the region. The Kingdom of Denmark, during those times, have assisted the refugees to safety in Denmark.
The Kingdom of Denmark is a strong supporter of the creation of the Palestinian state while in discussion with the State of Israel and State of Palestine in a peaceful manner that will not cause harm to the region. The Kingdom of Denmark supports the creation of the Palestinian state and the upgrade of the Palestinian status in the United Nations; however, the only true method of resolving this situation is if, and only if, the State of Israel and the Palestinian Liberation Organization negotiate further. The main obstacle the PLO must overcome is the negotiations between Israel and Palestine. Without this negotiation done in a peaceful manner, Palestine will not gain its sovereignty. Denmark has supported initiatives such as the Road Map for Peace, United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine refugees, Negotiations Affairs Department of the PLO, Cultural Outreach and Engagement Program, Middle East Regional Agriculture Program, and Temporary International Presence in Hebron. The Kingdom of Denmark has also aided in the safety of Palestinian citizens in the 1980s during the Lebanese Civil War. The Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) has assisted in the development of Palestine over the years due to the living conditions in which many Palestinians face, such as poverty, violence, and instability.
The Kingdom of Denmark believes that Palestine should be recognized as a state and be given an upgraded status within the United Nations. The failing talks between Israel and Palestine does not mean that the talks should come to an end, but that there are better methods in which communication between the two can be done through the United Nations in a peaceful, non-violent manner that would not harm the citizens of the area on both sides of the issue. The United Nations Special Political Committee must intervene in the Israel-Palestine conflict in order to prevent further violence.
