As I am sure everyone is aware, the WMD stockpiles in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, etc, could become a very large and threatening dilemma if not addressed properly. Our job as delegates from our respective nations is to come up with a solution that would limit the threat that these unused, minimally secured, WMD’s pose to the security and well being of all our nations, New Zealand included.
New Zealand strongly believes that the security of these weapons affects the whole world, not just any countries in particular. If captured by the wrong hands, terrorists for example, these weapons could quickly turn into extremely dangerous threats that would pose a problem to every nation. These weapons could easily have devastating and catastrophic effects on our nations, causing enormous tragedy and loss of life. I am very sure that everyone agrees that this threat desperately needs to be dealt with, before it blows out of proportion.
We delegates need to take action and secure these WMD’s before great harm is caused to the people we represent and our nations we care so much for. Many initiatives can be taken into consideration here, such as funding for the protection of these weapons, improving border controls, or the removal of these weapons from their current locations. We don't believe that these measures should be left up to the respective states that have possession of these weapons, for their security affects the whole international community. It is our responsibility, as delegates from the United Nations, to take action that prevents these weapons from becoming a massive problem. Therefore, new Zealand looks forward to working cooperatively to find a reasonable, and effective solution.
