The removal of Mohamed Morsi as President was a necessary step to ensure that Egyptians have a fair, democratic government, as opposed to a government under the authoritarian rule of Mohamed Morsi. As President, Morsi tried to immunize any actions he took, giving himself unlimited power while ignoring the needs of the Egyptian people. He also failed to form an inclusive government, giving most positions of power to members of the Muslim Brotherhood, while ignoring supporters of a secular government. Morsi also utterly failed in the execution of his plan to stabilize the nation after the revolution, another example of his lack of ability to govern. Perhaps most importantly, most Egyptians were opposed to the leadership of Mohamed Morsi. Millions of protesters spoke out against Morsi's oppression of the people. The removal of Morsi as President was completely justifiable.
The interim government is doing everything it can to make sure that Egypt can have a happy, strong, and inclusive society as soon as possible. This includes maintaining peace during this transitional period. The military has not harmed peaceful protesters in any way, and the government wants to preserve the right of peaceful protest for all Egyptians. The military has also made sure that violent protests were handled with the least harm to the people possible.
Egypt is willing to cooperate with the UN in preparing for upcoming parliamentary and presidential elections in 2014. The current interim government, headed by President Adly Mansour, is looking to move forward to a democratically elected, inclusive government as soon as possible. Egypt welcomes the UN to work with us to provide our people with a strong, just government. The UN could best handle the situation by recognizing our interim government as the best solution to maintaining democracy in our country, while also recognizing our national sovereignty. Egypt looks forward to building a strong government that will create a prosperous and peaceful society.
