The coup that has occurred in Egypt was clearly the result of poor governmental choices and leadership by the Morsi regime. He confused his enemies with his friends, sending ambassadors to the Zionist regime and launching “Iran-phobia” actions. While we do respect the Muslim Brotherhood, its history, its struggle, and its ideology, the current leadership is no different from Mubarak. They sought diplomacy and change, however they act very similarly in Egypt to the way in which Mubarak had acted. Therefore the problem lies not with the coup, but with the government and its leadership following the needed coup.
Time and time again coup’s have occurred, usually with good intentions. However most coups end the same way, with a poor government, sometimes worse than those whom they overthrew. Egypt is currently in a state of unrest and instability. Some of the issues are internal, some external. Some theorize that after a revolution, after an ineffective government is ousted, there is a window of time where reform and change can occur, such things add to viability and stability of the state in the long term. This window is quickly closing. Therefore we should use this moment to the advantage of the Egyptian people. They have many problems facing them today, high unemployment and crime rates are but two examples. If we can somehow remedy these problems, there are many ways to do so, Egypt would theoretically return to a state of viability and stability, recognizing its friends and its allies as it once did.
