Libya is very fortunate that we have not faced the kind of natural disasters that have devastated our economy. We have faced minor weather issues such as sand storms. However, those have never had an impact on our economy. Although we do not get many natural disasters that other nations often face, such as tropical storms, flooding, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, etc.Libya is fully in favor of programs to predict and attempt to prevent natural disasters.
When natural disasters occur anywhere in the world, the UN needs to help supply relief in many forms. Specifically, when a natural disaster strikes a developing country, such as countries all over Africa, the UN needs to supply the country in need with relief so persons affected by the disaster can survive. The UN also should provide relief to that country until the issues from the aftermath of the disaster have passed. However, when a disaster hit a developed country the country need to provide as much support and relief as possible to the citizens of the country. While the country in need can supply a lot of relief to the citizens the UN should still monitor the developed nation to be sure that the government of the country has everything under control.
While the United Nations usually provides relief to countries in need after a natural disaster, Libya believes the world does not put enough stress on the prediction and prevention aspect of natural disasters. While there have been research attempts directed towards the prevention and prediction of these disasters, Libya thinks that these efforts have not been substantial enough. To the best of our ability Libya is willing to provide funds in order to research the prediction and prevention of natural disasters, and looks forward to working with other nations to find solutions to improve prediction and response for natural disasters.
